What does it mean when you dream about an eagle eating a small bird?
On new year's day, an eagle landed on our fire escape and we haven't see it since. Then, about a month or so later, I dreamed about the eagle coming into our house and eating our parakeet. I manage to catch the eagle somehow and open its mouth and take out the parakeet. The little parakeet was fine and then that was it. What is that dream supposed to mean?

- Maybe you're scared for your parakeet's safety?
- I think its saying your not feeling very protected about something, or unsafe in whatever situation your in. In the form of a parakeet, that is.
- It means the eagle left a very lasting impression on you when you saw it, possibly because of the rarity of seeing such a magnificent bird on an urbanized neighborhood. It left a lasting impression because it was rather sudden and abrupt. Your family has a bird for a pet, meaning there are bird-lovers in your family. Your experiences with the parakeet may not have a lasting impression on you, or you may not generally hold much esteem for your pet bird, but the fact that there is a bird present inside your household daily has physically "implanted" an impression on you. I say that the abrupt "lasting" impression made by the eagle matched up to the slow, mundane, and methodical daily "lasting" impression of the parakeet. Abruptness versus mundane. In terms of size, the eagle won out, obviously. If you held high esteem for your pet, your brain may have been attempting to work through some emotions using something large to overtake something small. Also, the possibility does exist where the eagle was threatening YOU and using the parakeet as the recipient for what it wanted to do to YOU. In which case, your snagging of the bird and saving your parakeet symbolizes your bravery and ability to "push through" the threat. Ever see that picture joke of the pelican eating the frog? The frog's arms held tight to the pelican's neck so it couldn't swallow. The words beneath were something like "Fight!" ~~~~~~~~ Perhaps some knowledge about eagles might help you so that you don't wind up with a recurring dream and your brain is hencefort satisfied in its pursuit for rationalization: 1. The eagle is a "bird of prey", meaning it preys on its victims. 2. The focal eyesight of birds of prey are specifically geared for long distances. 3. When catchig their prey, birds of prey swoop down at tremendous speeds and use their sharp talons to grab hold. While eating, they hold their victims in their talons. Contrast this with there being a roof over your parakeet, a cage your parakeet is in (presumably), and your dream about how the eagle ate your parakeet (not specified), and the relatively short distance from window to parakeet compared to "bird of prey" being hundreds of feet away from "victim". Maybe this knowledge will aid you for the future.
